DISCOVERING ABRUZZO
Tagliacozzo

City of art of mountain Abruzzo. It is the third largest municipality in Marsica and the cultural capital of the territory, after Avezzano and Celano, by territorial extension and number of inhabitants. Numerous and important cultural events are organized in the Marsican town, including the well-known International Midsummer Festival.

Tagliacozzo was elevated to a city by decree of the President of the Republic in 2000. The center of this spectacular village is Piazza Obelisco, one of the most characteristic of Abruzzo, with its elegant palaces, the loggia with round arches and Renaissance windows.

Tagliacozzo is remembered by Dante for the battle between the supporters of Corradino di Svevia and the troops of Charles of Anjou, fought and won by Charles I of Anjou over the Ghibellines of Corradino di Svevia in 1268.

This precious center, inhabited in ancient times by the Equi and Marsi, stands on the northern slopes of the Simbruini Mountains. To visit absolutely the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Oriente, which houses the Oriental Museum, and the fifteenth-century Palazzo Ducale.
